Nature can be kind of hard to define, right?! It covers so much. So we’re on the same page, when we talk about nature, we mean the physical world around us: the oceans, forests, rivers, mountains, and skies. Equally, the animals, plants, birds, and insects.
We’ve been making products since 2009 to help bring you closer to your dog. At the same time, bringing you closer to nature by making your time outdoors even more fun, ensuring you can clean your dog up after the fun, and preserving your local area by cleaning up after your dog (poop bags).
When it comes to managing how we make Beco products and run our business, we think about nature in our value chain too. Mostly, how we can reduce the risk we and our partners pose to it - whether it’s the forests of Vietnam or UK agriculture. Here’s the process.
Traceability
We dig deep into our supply chain and find out where our materials come from and how they’re sourced. It’s constantly evolving so we’ll always be digging and tracking our materials and ingredients through the supply chain, including how they’re handled and processes.
Environmental risk assessment (double materiality)
The risk to nature varies with each ingredient, process, location, and ecosystem. With that in mind, we take a tailored approach. Using a nature risk measurement tool, we analyse the greatest risks in our supply chains based on these factors.
Action stations
Based on the findings in our risk assessment, we create an action plan to reduce the risks to nature in our supply chain. So far, we’ve ramped up recycled content, improved the traceability and sourcing of our natural rubber, chosen plants with a lower deforestation risk where possible (bamboo) and improved the sourcing of these raw materials. Watch this space.
Also, doing a bit good where possible too
Beyond just reducing the risk of the negative, we’re investing in restoration, preservation, and accessibility of green spaces. Our partners working to restore and rewild woodland habitats are Plant One, Trees for Life and Trash Free Trails.
So everyone can enjoy a little more nature on their walks and wanders.
