Through their meaty diets, cleaning up after them, and the toys they love to love (ahem, destroy), the lives of our dogs can get a bit gassy. But, if there's one thing we know, it's that 'gooood boys' and gooood girls' always deserve a treat.

We work on our carbon footprint, certified by The Change Climate Project, so you can treat your pup to the goodies they deserve, knowing that we've got the climate action covered on your behalf. Here's how we approach those pesky emissions.

Measure

We measure our scope 1, 2 & 3 (cradle-to-customer) carbon emissions. That means that when you buy direct form our site, we're taking responsibility for the emissions up to the point when they land on your doorstep.

Reduce

We track and report on how we're progressing against current reduction targets and projects. Every year we set a fresh batch of new science-aligned reduction targets.

Take responsibility for the unavoidable

Reductions are the goal (obvs). While we work on them, we take responsibility for 100% of our unavoidable emissions through a mix of value chain abatement (VCA) and beyond value chain mitigation (BVCM).

Verify

Every year, all of the above is verified by The Change Climate Project. So long we continue meeting their standards, we have another year as a The Climate Label certified brand.

While Hubie goes for a dip, let's dig deeper. It gets a little science-y.

In 2023, our carbon footprint was 2,086 tCO2 (which means we released 2,086 tonnes of greenhouse gasses).

You can find our full carbon breakdown in our Impact Report.

We've broken down our impact into three areas; operations, Beco HQ, and value chain. As with most businesses that make things, our measurement is heavily weighted towards our value chain. Not everyone includes this in their measurement but, as our value chain is such a big contributor, we feel we'd be cheating if we didn't.

Reductions are always the goal.

Of course, we’ll continue taking responsibility for the emissions that remain, but that’s just a temporary fix while we work on our main focus - reducing our footprint with science-aligned targets.

You can find out how we're doing against our targets on our annual Impact Report.

When it comes to taking responsibility for the unavoidable.

Our beyond value chain mitigation (BVCM) is through carbon credits. We know they can be contentious so we're only using verified, traceable credits, on specific projects that we believe are able to reliable reduce or avoid emissions as promised. You can find all the details of our 2023 portfolio below.

We recognise having no environmental impact is near impossible.

But, like a dog chasing a squirrel, we'll never stop working on it. Whilst focusing on reducing every year, we’ll stay accountable for the emissions that we haven't cracked (yet).

You'll have to excuse us, we're off to fetch Hubie from the pond. If you'd like to know more, you can read more about our carbon strategy on the Beco brand page at The Change Climate Project.
